Corten Steel = Protect

Made of steel (iron) and coated with a mixture of alloys (copper, chromium, nickel, molybdenum, and phosphorus). These alloys oxidize under weather conditions, creating a protective layer that can regenerate itself. This patina, or rust, adheres well and is relatively impermeable to oxygen, naturally protecting the steel of the fire pit from corrosion and external damage.

This transformation is normal and part of the material's unique appeal.

Over time, this rust layer stabilizes to form a natural protective barrier, enhancing the fire pit's durability while adding a beautiful touch of color to your outdoor space.

First of all, there is no need to worry too much; Corten steel products are specifically designed for outdoor use. However, if the fire pit is not going to be used for an extended period, please take some protective measures.

You can:

1. Place it in a sheltered area, if possible.
2. Prevent water from pooling.
3. Keep it clean (free of ash).

These are simple steps to enhance the product's durability.

While the fire bowl is still warm, use a scraper to remove residue from the cooking plate and a dedicated brush to clean the grill (take care to avoid burns during this process).

After thorough cleaning, apply vegetable oil to the cooking plate and grill to protect them. Once the fire bowl has cooled completely, use the drawer to empty out the ash. Finally, cover the fire bowl with a lid or protective cover. It prevents rainwater, melted snow, and fallen leaves from accumulating in the fire pit, thereby reducing maintenance.

If rust accidentally develops, gently sand away the rust spots with fine-grit sandpaper and then apply a protective oil. To prevent rusting, store the fire pit in a cool, sheltered place.

When Corten steel products are delivered, the corrosion process has already begun. It takes another 6 to 12 months for the initial corrosion to transform into a fully protective layer. Many factors influence this process, such as weather and geographical location. For this reason, the color of the products may vary.

The Cooking plate features a design that slopes slightly inward toward the center, directing small amounts of grease or other liquids generated during cooking toward the central heat source so they burn off completely.

However, it is impossible to absolutely guarantee that no grease will drip onto the ground. This is primarily due to the following reasons:

1. Excessive use of oil.
2. The Cooking Plate and Center Grill must always be placed on a level surface; otherwise, grease may spill over the edges.
3. Grease splattering is inevitable during high-temperature cooking.

If too much oil is used, the grease may not burn off completely in the center and could drip onto the ground through the ventilation holes in the ash tray.

Corten steel is a highly weather-resistant steel. The surface patina is ultimately a natural rust layer that changes and releases fine, and above all, colored particles.

In wet conditions, this can also lead to discoloration of floors, which often penetrates deep into the pores and is difficult to clean.

For the first two to three months after acquiring your fire pit, it is advisable to use it on a surface that is not susceptible to damage.

Naturally formed rust can dissolve in rainwater and form orange streaks that can stain porous soil. This process is perfectly normal and not permanent. Once it has matured, Corten steel no longer stains and you can install it almost anywhere you like!

The close proximity between the bowl, the base and the ground requires you to place your fire pit on a heat-resistant material that will not catch fire. Dry grass and wooden terraces should be avoided.
